The Bible says we are to long for the word like a baby longs (demands) milk. To many times Christians have no desire or longing for the word or anything else of a spiritual nature. When our Christianity is not first and foremost in our lives, and we are not concerned with our own Spirituality it seems to me to almost be impossible to be concerned about anyone else's. The best we can hope for is if they see someone going down the wide road their concern for someone else may awaken their own position with our Lord. If we don’t love ourselves how can we possibly love others. You are absolutely right it is our job to ignite other with our burning desire to love God the way He loves us.
From Doug Jr., Since Dad has elected to stop the cancer therapy from the Doctors, he has become aware of just how sick he is. With memories of how active his life had been last year, Dad has become frustrated with the way he currently finds himself. I will describe some of the last year to you so that those who read this can better understand his feelings.Dad has spent countless hours counseling the people he cares about. He was also able to spend a few days at Oregon’s 2012 June Meeting. With help, he was able to put time into working around the house and tinker with the cars in the garage. He was able to have his first birthday party in November 2012 to celebrate his life with cancer when so many Doctors didn’t believe he would live two months; which many of you were able to celebrate with him. He was able to make trips to the Oregon Coast and walk on the beach that he loves so much. He walked around the Renaissance Fair and took part in the Long Tom Grange Daffodil Festival, events that both Mom and Dad have been able to enjoy together for years. He now finds himself in a dark frustrating place and wants to go home, to Heaven. With the poisons of his Cancer Treatments leaving his body, he has become more self-aware of his current physical state. Dad now finds himself without the physical strength to hug his wife and kids and inability to walk at all, which confines him to a wheelchair to simply go down the hall to his bedroom. The short trip to Church to enjoy God’s teachings renders him so exhausted that he ends up sleeping through most, if not all, of the services. If this wasn’t bad enough for a person to deal with, he also has a voice in his head telling him that he will die the next day at 2 o’clock in the morning. Not only do you need to imagine his frustrations with life, but to also be let down every morning knowing you didn’t wake up in Heaven. Mom and I would like those that love Dad to earnestly pray that he once again find peace with God. I share with you this personal information so that you will understand Dad’s torment and what prayers he truly needs. My own wish is that you would also pray for Mom. This has been a time that has weighed down her heart. Those of us that love Mom can only help so much. She needs prayers of strength to carry Dad through this dark time. She needs prayer for this with the conviction of the nagging widow. I implore you to wring God’s ears with prayer For Mom that she can have the strength to prove the truthfulness of 1 Corinthians 7:12-16: 12 To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. 13 And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.15 But if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace. 16 How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or, how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife? I look for the day that Dad finds peace again but he needs Mom to be a light for him. I apologize if my description Of Dad has disturbed some of you. Dad and Mom brought their children up with the teaching that if you are going To pray, you need to know what you are praying for. Thank you all and God’s Blessings to everyone.

02-10-2013 Okay, Dad is home. Brought him home this morning. Hospital release instructions include the orders that he is to use a walker, not a cane for walking. He has a follow up appointment with our family doctor and lab work to be completed. The doctor has prescribed in-home health nurse/physical therapy/occupational therapy provided by Medicare.
He has slept off and on (more on than off) today, but I was able to get him to volunteer to walk the ward two rounds before they released him today. He sat up to eat and sat up for awhile long enough to get a hug from great-grandchildren and a few church friends/family. Then off to bed he went again.
The doctors are baffled why he became so week, whether he had a virus (no visable signs of virus), dehyration, depression or what caused his weakness. At his age, they had to wonder if it is failure to thrive or depression....they asked a few leading questions...which he answered just fine. They had to rule that out.
Our week has been a long one. Henry's dad is in ICU at McKenzie-Willamette Hospital with fluid surrounding his heart and in his lungs. The doctors determined that one of Dick's meds' side effects was causing the heart not to pump correctly and therefore, blood and fluids was backing up in the sack surrounding his heart. They have adjusted his meds and given him another med to eliminate the excess fluid in his heart, lungs and body. He is expected to be in the hospital for another 2-3 days.
I am home with Dad while Henry is at church and then visiting his dad after church. I will attempt to return to work tomorrow while Henry is home. Thank you all for your prayers and words of encouragement.
Greetings and Blessings to all who read this:
The Lemley Family has asked me to provide you all with an update on Doug...
Late Friday, August 24th, Doug suffered a Grand mal seizure. For those who may be unfamiliar with that particular type of seizure, it is a type of seizure most common in epilepsy. It occurs when the electrical activity over the whole surface of the brain becomes abnormally synchronized. In basic terms, an electrical malfunction, or short-circuit and over-load in the brain... With that said, the Lemley’s and myself want to assure everyone that this event isn’t a sign that the Cancer is progressing nor is it a precursor of Doug’s health declining. Diligent testing Saturday revealed that Doug’s electrolyte levels were very low. Electrolytes, in basic terms, are substances that become ions in solution form during which they acquire the capacity to conduct electricity and are essential for normal function of our cells and organs. The most recognizable substances that dictate one’s electrolyte levels are Sodium, Potassium, Chloride and Bicarbonate. The Doctors and Specialists caring for him stated that the levels he displayed this weekend would have caused a seizure in the healthiest of individuals. The specific cause of his low electrolytes has not been pinned down at this moment, but the current course of action Doug, Jr. is taking is scaling back on Doug’s “required” fluid intake and replacing some of his intake with electrolyte replenishing drinks such as Gatorade and V-8 juice.
The after affects of the seizure, coupled with the side-effects of the anti-seizure medication he is now on, were quite evident today when we visited with Doug today after services. His ability to process thoughts and comprehend conversation has been greatly affected. In essence, his brain’s ability to process more closely resembles its abilities of 6-months ago and its expected that it will take 2-4 weeks for his brain to recover. In the next few days more blood tests will be conducted and its expected that he will be able to come off of the anti-seizure medication if his electrolyte levels are closer to normal.
The Lemley’s wanted this update to be passed along to all of Doug’s Brothers and Sisters in Christ to not only keep you all informed, but to also prepare anyone who may have had a desire to reach out to Doug in the coming weeks. His abilities to communicate at this moment are not what they were recently...
Continued prayers of comfort and strength for Doug and his family are always needed and appreciated. Doug absolutely adores the love and well-wishes from his Church Family...
On a personal level, Doug is the epitome of the type of the man I can merely pray to be one day... If I could be HALF the person he is, it would be a blessing. His love and respect for EVERYONE is a shining example of God’s love for all. He wishes God’s Blessings for all and personally thanks every one for all the love, support, and well-wishes you have bestowed on him and his family.
